And just like that, we have entered 2022. 2022! That is wild.
The past two years have been filled with life lessons: lessons that have shaped me and helped me mature, be more grateful and has sown me how resilient I am.
If you would like to know more about the lessons, I have learnt be sure to check out my previous post:
Goodbye 2021! 5 Necessary Things That I Learnt In 2021
As per my yearly ritual, I like to set goals that I am (I will: speak things into existence people) to achieve by this time next year. When setting goals; I try to make them SMART so I don’t overestimate things and get super disappointed if they don’t happen. But with the way my quirky brain is wired and the other methods I use, they will come to fruition!
I have broken my goals down into 3 categories: growth, career and love.
Growth
As you know, I am a sucker for personal development. Hence, why I began this blog. Personal development is unique to everyone and for me, I tend to focus inwards (with support if necessary) in order to better myself. In other words, instead of looking around and comparing my journey to everyone else’s. I look at myself and do self assessments. I ask myself questions such as How can I improve. How can I better myself?
During this year, I will continue to focus on my growth. To do this, I will do the following:
- Meditate more- I have been meditating daily for some time now however, I only do it for roughly 8 minutes if that, first thing in the morning. Now, I am going to meditate before I go to sleep. I wonder how it will impact my sleep. Meditation helps to relieve stress so I need as much as much of it as I can get!
- Journal more- When I do journal, I do it before I go to sleep and sometimes, I am rushing as I am running behind schedule. What I will do is carve out more time to be intentional with journaling instead of rushing it. Intention is key.
- Manifest and visualization- 55×5 manifestation method works for me. I have done it time and time again and it will help me reach my goals!
- Read more self development books- In 2021, I read about 7 self development books. I will aim for more this year and make sure I take notes and apply what I have read to my life.
Career
I know what you are thinking. Girl, how many more times will you switch up your job? Last year alone, I had 4 jobs (I am still in the latter one, whoop!) all that hopping around was necessary. One thing about me is, I will give things a try. If they don’t work out then I know what not to do and what type of job isn’t for me and that I ok.
I am beyond grateful to have found the job I am in now. I feel valued, I feel included and I feel trusted to do my job; it is going really well. I am able to have a proper work/life balance which is no important for my wellbeing. So why did you mention career, I hear you say? Well, my things are always striving for better. In my mind, after adequate time at a job (1 year perhaps) then its time to move on up.
Looking for something in the field you prefer that will continue to push you to gain more experience. So that is what I plan to do.
With that being said, I want to focus more on my side hustles: blogging as well as YouTube. I really do enjoy blogging but I want to grow! I need to expand and I hope to have a larger audience so I can help more people that’s what I am about.
Love
Oh love, it can be such as scary, but beautiful thing. The most important element of love is self love. Looking in the mirror and loving yourself wholly and completely flaws and all. Not depending on anyone or anything to give you the love you deserve. You have to fill your cup up first.
And that is exactly what I am doing. I started counselling towards the end of last year and it has helped me tremendously. I love venting. I love getting things off my chest. It is so powerful and gives our so much to think about and to process.
I have had a lot to process from my adhd diagnosis and the loss of loves ones it has been a lot so I believe that long term counselling is good for me.
Eventually, I do want to start dating but when the time is right and when I have built up my confidence again. I am content with being in my own company and I love it but I am a hopeless romantic at heart. I know there is someone out there for me but right now I am figuring out me first. Unlearning and learning how to love all of me and its a beautiful journey.
Take away
So if you are ready, lets make this year the best year yet.
Make SMART goals and share it with me if you feel comfortable to do so.
Thank you for reading.
Take care and stay safe.
Great content! Keep up the good work!
Thank you! Thank you for reading.
Wonderful! I too use journaling as my tool for manifestations and overcoming stressful thoughts. It’s a great way to grow.
Yes, love it. It is so great for self-awareness. Thank you for commenting.
Great post. And I love how you focused on self-love in the ‘love’ section. Will check out your book recommendations.
Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy the books!
I am trying to meditate more as well. Do you do guided meditation? Or just meditate by sitting quietly?
I meditate by sitting quietly but I have tried guided meditation as well. Try both and see which one you like!
Thanks for sharing. It is helpful to read your methods on how you will focus on growth. This is something I need to do, but I don’t really have a plan. I tend to get derailed and don’t focus on this. Journaling seems to be on the top of most lists. This is something I have now been saying for weeks that I should do. Thank you for the reminder.
Thank you for reading. It is a process but try to take each day as it comes. I hope you are able to try some of the methods.
Love what you said about realizing how resilient you are! Resilience is sometimes elusive for me, but I have began to recognize my small “wins” amid such trying times in the world and I’ve seen how resilient I actually am! And so true about making your goals using the SMART framework: specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound! I love that and use this format to create my blogging goals 🙂 I’m also meditating much more this year, it’s my new years resolution to spend a few minutes of stillness each day, and it’s been lovely! Great post, love hearing about your growth and goals!!
Small wins are winds regardless! Thank you for connecting with me and thanks for reading my post!
Love this post 🙂
