Do you struggle to remain motive during quarantine?
This global crisis is crazy.
Who would have thought that this would be going on in the world?!
For the most of last year, UK has been in lockdown.
That means non-essential stores and establishments have been closed, we must maintain social distancing, and during the first lock, we were under strict government guidelines.
At first, I was ok with staying home as I was overwhelmed. I had many things on my plate; I had 2 jobs, I was volunteering every week, I was a full-time student, and I had to do a placement as part of my course!
If you would like to know what else I’m getting up to during quarantine, check out my video below.
Spending some time at home was what I was craving. Initially, we thought that quarantine would last a couple of weeks. HA!
Honestly, I am trying my hardest to remain hopeful and positive, but my mood dwindles some days.
I am pretty sure that I have mentioned that I am a homebody.
To me, nothing beats staying at home. I love it!
I only like to go out if its essential; university, gym, grocery shopping, meeting my friends. Unless I have things to do, I will remain in my house every single day.
But now that we are forced to stay at home, it is starting to bother me, honestly.
Although things could be much worse, I want to make sure that I use this time wisely and remain motivated.
We have so many things to be grateful for, healthcare, a roof over our head, access to food, education, loved ones… I could go on.
Tips To Remain Motivated and optimistic During Quarantine.
If you are like me, starting to become stressed and unmotivated, here are some tips to lift your spirits.
1.Think about new opportunities
I will be graduating from university this year (yes, I am claiming it!). I am thinking of different jobs, placement and volunteering opportunities that I would need to complete to sustain my future career.
Within Psychology, having experience is key! With the career path that I am on, it is essential to have relevant experience. If you are considering having a job in psychology, I would definitely recommend volunteering.
To get a well-paying job, one you need experience and two, you need the qualifications. Therefore, start volunteering and then who knows that you can be the perfect fit for new paid roles that may arise in the company!
Finding a job that seems interesting, save! If you do not have the experience, look for volunteering opportunities. It will help you gain valuable experience and will equip you with the necessary skills to succeed!
During this time at home, I am using the internet to it’s fullest capacity! I am researching everything! Not only I am, but I also find it useful to make folders on your internet and save, save, save! Not only does this keep me focused, but it also helps me to remain motivated to go after the goals!
Maybe you can write a list of things of things you look forward to doing post lockdown.
2. Read a book
Books are a good distraction and should be utilized. I am currently reading you are a badass. Click here for my book review! I love reading self-care books because they usually include tips/homework to become the best version of yourself.
On Amazon and Kindle, there are usually great deals on books. I am currently running out of space for my books! Therefore, having a kindle is a great option to have. It is lightweight and convenient.
3. Watch something funny
The internet can be a weird place, but it can also be a source of joy. When I feel sad, I usually watch a funny YouTube video or a movie. They tend to lift my mood, and I feel much better after.
4.Journal
I can imagine that you have watched countless documentaries and movies on Netflix but have you focused on yourself? It is time to focus inward and work on things you may have been putting off for a while. Using this quiet time has made me realize that I really miss going to counselling.
Counselling has really helped me in many ways (it makes me feel more motivated to work on my self-care routine), and when I can, I am going to make it a priority in my life.

5.Reach out to loved ones
We are all going through this together! You may feel alone, but there may be others in your shoes!
Lockdown has made me feel quite isolated. I live quite far from my loved ones. However, I am not a touchy-feely person, man! I miss physical contact!
Talk to your friends and check on your family to ensure that they are coping with the current pandemic. Perhaps you can plan a zoom meeting!
6.Love on yourself
I want everyone reading this to ensure that they speak kindly of themselves. They are many positive affirmations that you could incorporate into your daily routine. They have health benefits too! Every time you look in the mirror, say something nice about yourself. You need some TLC too!
Self- care needs to be part of your daily routine. Suppose you would like to know more about self-care ideas; read about 30 inexpensive self-care ideas!
You do not need to spend a lot of money to boost your mood. Lockdown has been hectic. Many people have lost their jobs, I included! I have learnt to save most of my money and watch my spending, but at least once a month, I order a book on kindle, which is usually less than £10!
Something so small but makes me feel so good!
Thank you for taking the time to read this post, and I hope you all are safe and well.
We are in this together. This too shall pass.
Take care.
